One Way Spider-Man: Homecoming Probably Will Get Its Aerial Shots

For a superhero that cannot actually fly, our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has a tendency to spend quite a bit of time in the sky. With the birdlike villain known as Vulture on the horizon for Spider-Man: Homecoming that will only become more apparent in the near future. Director Jon Watts will have to pull out all of the stops to nail some of Homecoming's intricate aerial shots, and we now have a better idea of how he plans to film those sequences. Jon Watts has just posted the above post to his personal Instagram account to give fans a far better idea of how the aerial sequences in Spider-Man: Homecoming will come together. The video in question shows a sign with the words "to set" written on it, along with an arrow pointing up to a helicopter in the sky. The video ends with the helicopter hovering above, and as such we can now pretty much confirm that Spider-Man: Homecoming will likely feature plenty of stunning aerial photography -- although we never really doubted that in the first place.

Obviously this video doesn't give us any real insight into the narrative significance of these sequences, but it shows that the production will use practical camerawork to capture Spider-Man's home in the New York City skyline. From a pure cinematography standpoint, this means that we can probably expect one of the most beautiful and expansive Marvel movies of all time when Homecoming finally hits theaters. That being said, Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) probably won't be happy if she ever finds out how high up Peter's been going.

With regards to the action, there's really nothing more important than getting the aerial sequences right. There's arguably no more iconic Spider-Man image than him swinging through the New York skyline to battle his foes, and as such it's essential for Jon Watts and the rest of the crew to properly execute these moments. Even in his scenes from Captain America: Civil War, we never really get a chance to see what this iteration of Spider-Man looks like soaring through the sky, as most of his action sequences took place within the confines of the airport sequence; Homecoming is our first look at Spider-Man in his natural habitat. Considering the fact that Tom Holland's Spider-Man will share the screen with Vulture and Iron Man (two notable Marvel flyers) getting this right becomes even more important.

Even the worst Spider-Man movies have always managed to nail these sequences, so the responsibility falls on Homecoming to carry on that tradition:


Just when I think that I cannot get more excited for Spider-Man: Homecoming, this video hits Instagram. It teases beautiful aerial photography in the upcoming film, but we will just have to wait and see what those shots truly look like.
