While it's often not given enough credit, Blade was one of the successful films that made comic book properties viable in the 1990s. Many have wondered what the future holds for the character but now somebody who's already part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has expressed interest in reprising the role. Anthony Mackie, who plays Falcon in the current MCU says that he'd love to play the part of Blade, mostly because his career goal is apparently to just be Wesley Snipes. This has led him to also want to be Blade.

I pretty much want to grow up to be Wesley Snipes. If we can bring back Blade, I'd definitely be Blade in every Blade movie.

Bringing back Blade has been something that has been a topic of discussion for quite some time among both Marvel Studios and fans of the MCU. Wesley Snipes himself has expressed interest in returning to the role he played in a trilogy of films. Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios has previously said that Marvel will do something with Blade at some point, but the last we heard there were no specific plans, so Blade continues to sit on the shelf until somebody has an idea. The character was reportedly under consideration for a Netflix series, but nothing has come from that so far. It remains to be seen if Mackie's comments, made during the Wizard World event in Cleveland (via Screen Geek), will cause any wheels to start turning.

While it's been reported that Marvel would have no problem casting the same actor as multiple characters within the MCU. It would seem to be unlikely that Anthony Mackie would have a chance to be Blade while also playing the part of Falcon. It's one thing if you play a small supporting role and then get a chance to play a lead, but Mackie is already a major character making the odds of him playing another lead pretty long.

Still, if Blade did return in the form of a TV series, maybe Anthony Mackie could take it on. At this point, it really seems like the movie and television sides of the MCU are never going to meet. If Blade and Falcon never cross paths then why couldn't Mackie play both parts?

Of course, if Anthony Mackie really wants to be Blade, he may need to fight his idol for the part. Wesley Snipes has said on more than one occasion that he'd play the part again if he ever had the chance. It will be interesting to see what happens if they ever dust off the character and bring him back.
