The upcoming supernatural horror film The Nun has now released its official poster prior to the San Diego Comic-Con 2018 panel on which it will be featured. The latest piece of promotional marketing has been revealed just hours before New Line Cinema’s convention panel and indicates that further details regarding the film will be discussed.

The Nun is set as a spin-off to 2016’s The Conjuring 2, making it the fifth addition to The Conjuring franchise. Directed by Corin Hardy, who’s accredited for his directorial debut on The Hallow, the film will follow the investigation of a mysterious suicide of a young nun in 1952 Romania. In trying to find the answers for her unsuspected death, a priest and a novitiate find themselves uncovering a much darker story. Risking their lives and their souls, the two confront the demonic force that first made its appearance in The Conjuring 2.

Leading up to the production studio’s Comic-Con panel later this evening, which has been deemed ‘Scarediego’, the first look at the official poster has been revealed. The poster showcases the two nuns that the film is seemingly going to focus around - the late young nun who took her own life, and the malevolent spirit that will instill fear in viewers once again. While the poster doesn’t reveal much, it does suggest audiences can expect the latest addition to the franchise to live up to the fear-factor expectations. As well as noting that the newest film will be the "darkest chapter" of The Conjuring Universe, it also confirms a later release date.

While production of the film wrapped after only 38 days of filming in June 2017, Warner Bros. Pictures originally planned to release the movie in July this year. However, in February it was announced that the release date was being pushed back to September 7, which the poster now confirms. The upcoming horror will once again see the creative talent of James Wan, who directed The Conjuring and The Conjuring 2, as he will be working to produce The Nun alongside Peter Safran, who has produced all the earlier releases.

While not that many details regarding the film have yet been released, audiences can expect to see a variety of familiar faces throughout the cast. Demián Bichir (A Better Life) will star as the priest as American Horror Story’s Taissa Farmiga makes her appearance as Sister Irene. Gary Dauberman is responsible for the screenplay of the film and will be acting as executive producer alongside Richard Brener, Walter Hamada, Dave Neustadter, Michael Clear and Todd Williams.

The Conjuring franchise has definitely created quite a reputation for itself throughout the horror film genre as it’s continuously been able to take audiences off-guard and keep the genre fresh. With fans eager to see the latest addition, it’s not unlikely the film will quickly rack up quite the revenue following its initial theatrical release in September this year.
