Nickelodeon Inks Expanded Content Deal With Chinese Streamer iQiyi
The new deal will provide the online giant with four times more Nickelodeon programming for its kids platforms.
Chinese streaming video giant iQiyi has inked an expanded multi-year content deal with Viacom's Nickelodeon for exclusive streaming rights of Mandarin- and English-language programming.
The deal will provide the Chinese streaming platform with four times more Nickelodeon programming to distribute on its kids platforms than so far. Financial terms weren't disclosed.
iQiyi's collaboration with Nickelodeon began in 2012, and a bolt-on agreement was signed in 2017, covering two more of the latter’s properties. The latest agreement will give iQiyi exclusive streaming rights to several Nickelodeon hits, including Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the latest seasons of SpongeBob SquarePants, Shimmer and Shine, as well as Blaze and the Monster Machines.
iQiyi had 421 million monthly active users and 126 million daily active users on mobile platforms at the end of 2017.
"China remains a strategic market for Viacom," said Mark Whitehead, president and managing director, Asia Pacific at Viacom International Media Networks. "The extended content deal with iQiyi speaks to the success of our on-going collaboration with iQiyi who is an important content distribution partner for us in China, enabling us to meet the demand of Nickelodeon’s premium entertainment content for Chinese viewers."
