Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse doesn't hit theaters until December 14th, but Sony is preparing to get fans excited with a new trailer coming in June. Marvel's Peter Parker played an integral role in this summer's blockbuster Avengers: Infinity War, but fans will have to wait until 2019 for the conclusion of his story. In the interim, Marvel is plotting a massive Spider-Man crossover featuring Miles Morales, the successor to Peter Parker's Spider-Man.

Originally introduced in 2011, the Afro-Latino character has garnered a considerable fan following. With a massively expanded role in the comics and television adaptations of Marvel properties, fans have been asking when they'll see their favorite web-slinger in theaters. Miles Morales's live action MCU debut is in the works according to Marvel Studios, but Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will be arriving on the the big screen first. The previous teaser trailer offered a glimpse into Miles' world, filled with stunning visuals unlike anything Spider-Man fans have seen before. That makes the prospect of new footage from the film even more exciting.

According to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse co-director Peter Ramsey, fans don't have long to wait. The director took to twitter to tease his own excitement about the project, and promise that a new trailer was coming in June. Reassuring a fan that the iconic character means a lot to the Spider-Verse creative team, Ramsey teased that he was very excited to share what they'd been up to. Miles is a special character to a lot of people, representing a major milestone in terms of superhero representation. It's important for Ramsey, co-director Bob Persichetti, and writers Phil Lord and Chris Miller to get the details right, and Ramsey seems convinced that they'll be successful.

June won't see much in terms of theatrical animation beyond Disney's The Incredibles 2. Given the nature of the subject matter though - as well as the Marvel brand - Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 's new trailer could appear attached to any number of properties, from the aforementioned Incredibles 2 to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The plot details so far have teased a major Ultimates story from the comics, with Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) following in Peter Parker's footsteps and battling classic villains like the green goblin and Kingpin.

Jack Johnson will voice Peter Parker, Miles' mentor in the comic books, with Mahershala Ali voicing his father. Co-star Liev Schreiber teased that the film was going to "be pretty special", especially in terms of the visual work Sony is putting into the production, though he's kept his character mysteriously under wraps. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse promises stunning visuals, a touching story, and the introduction of a fan favorite character to the big screen in a very special way.
