New RoboCop Reboot Trailer Is Packed with Robophobia

A few months ago we got our first really good look at the upcoming RoboCop reboot and what it will be all about. Faithful fans of the franchise are railing against the idea of the series being rebooted and being done so in a way that strays if from its roots. But today we got a brand new trailer for the film and those fans initially skeptical about the reboot may start to come around after seeing it.

If you need a refresher on how this RoboCop will be different from the 80s original, here’s a quick synopsis of the new film:

In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years – and it’s meant billions for OmniCorp’s bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.
So far, everything we’ve seen from the reboot has us wildly excited for it to hit theaters in 2014. Fans of the franchise are still on the fence but some have found a way to bridge the two together in their own way, which means the experience of the reboot should be one that all enjoy.
