I have some bad news guys: Tom Cruise's master spy character Ethan Hunt dies in Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation. The silver lining, however, is that it's a rather quick death, that he seems to recover from quite quickly. Confused? Well, all will be explained if you just watch the brand new trailer below:

We already knew that Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation was going to feature one of the most insane real stunts seen in modern blockbusters - with Tom Cruise actually hanging on to the side of a taking-off airplane - but this new trailer released by Paramount Pictures shows that will only be the tip of the iceberg. It turns out that Cruise also had to do some serious time filming underwater, and part of that experience led to temporarily killing off Ethan Hunt. Of course, that's just a preamble to a car chase scene that results in Cruise driving a car in reverse over a staircase.

We're certainly thankful that Ethan winds up surviving the ordeal, because the rest of this preview for Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation suggests that there will be a ton more action for him to deal with before he is able to complete his ultimate task: stopping a force known as the Syndicate, which operates as an anti-Impossible Mission Force doing everything in its power to destroy the IMF. Helping him accomplish his mission is a fantastic mix of both new and old faces from the franchise, including Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, Jeremy Renner as William Brandt, Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, and Rebecca Ferguson as the newbie Ilsa. Unfortunately, they face pretty strong opposition in the form of both Sean Harris and Alec Baldwin.

This summer has already seen some pretty mind-blowing action sequences, from Joss Whedon's The Avengers: Age of Ultron, to George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road, and Christopher McQuarrie's Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation looks like it will be adding quite a few more into the mix (I can imagine the action movie retrospectives released at the end of the year already). We still have a little while to wait for the movie, as Paramount Pictures doesn't have the film scheduled for release until July 31st - but if the finished product can live up to the excitement generated from the trailers that we've seen thus far, we will be happy to wait.
