In the Madea movies, Tyler Perry has been known to take a page out of Eddie Murphy's playbook. In addition to playing the "mad black woman" that made him famous, he has also regularly played two other characters in the movies -- specifically Joe (Madea's brother), and Brian (Joe's son). With the exception of also playing himself in Madea's Big Happy Family, Perry has stuck with these three characters on the big screen for more than a decade now... but now he's ready to add a fourth part into the mix.

With Boo! A Madea Halloween arriving in theaters this Friday, I had the pleasure of sitting down one-on-one with Tyler Perry last week during the movie's Los Angeles press day to talk about his latest movie and the larger franchise. One thing I was curious about was if he had ever considered playing a role beyond Madea, Joe and Brian, and he revealed that he has actually been actively developing a new character -- specifically a Vietnam War veteran. Said Perry,

I absolutely am! It's so strange you say that. I've got a war veteran who is a paraplegic and a Vietnam war survivor that's Joe's friend. So I'm thinking about introducing him in the next one... It's in the works, and he's hysterical.

As you may have noticed, the details are definitely a bit light here, as Tyler Perry didn't even reveal the new character's name, but the wheels are clearly in motion. We don't know exactly when it will be that we will see the next Madea movie (it probably highly depends on the box office performance of Boo! A Madea Halloween), but whenever it does roll around you can expect to see Perry in a brand new part. And when you do see him, you can fondly remember back on this article when you first read about his forthcoming existence
