It has now been officially revealed that Netflix's upcoming adaptation of the classic best-selling The Sandman graphic novels will be rated TV-MA. The original collection of stories were written by the Hugo and Nebula award-winning author Neil Gaiman, between 1989-1996, and published by DC Comics. The TV series is being developed by Gaiman, David Goyer, and Allan Heinberg, and is currently expected to be released later this year.

Now, CBR has revealed that the rating for the highly anticipated Netflix TV series is now confirmed as being TV-MA due to language, violence, and sex. The rating information is also currently visible on the title page for The Sandman when clicking on the title on the streaming platform's website. It features additional details for the rating, noting that the content will also involve suicide, self-harm, and smoking.

The Sandman is said to be focused on the character of Dream, a powerful entity who is also known by other names, including Morpheus, the King of Dreams, and notably, Sandman. It stars Tom Sturridge as the titular character, and he is joined by other actors such as Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer, Boyd Holbrook as The Corinthian, and Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death.

It is believed the story will begin with Dream being captured by the Order of Ancient Mysteries and then escaping as he sets out to restore order to his kingdom of the Dreaming. Dream is known as one of the seven Endless beings, and each controls a different segment of existence. The Sandman Netflix adaptation has been long-awaited by fans everywhere after many unsuccessful attempts were made by others to adapt Gaiman’s iconic work throughout the years.
