Netflix’s The Midnight Sky, which George Clooney stars and directs, has a new trailer that reveals December release date. In June 2019, news broke that Netflix would add Hollywood icon, Clooney, to their impressive resume, as Clooney signed on to star and direct The Midnight Sky. Based on the 2016 novel Good Morning, Midnight by Lily Brooks-Dalton, the post-apocalyptic tale tells the story of Augustine (Clooney), a man trapped in the Arctic during a global catastrophe. Augustine also finds a mysterious child, Iris, and is attempting to contact Sully (Felicity Jones), one of the astronauts returning from Jupiter, to warn them against returning to Earth.

Netflix dropped the official trailer for The Midnight Sky, which gives audiences a glimpse at Clooney, with a bearded look, walking across the Arctic setting. The trailer begins with Clooney's Augustine attempting to contact the spaceship Ether so he can inform them about the harsh conditions on Earth. He ultimately decides to go on a journey with Iris to a stronger antenna in hopes his message will be received. The trailer reveals The Midnight Sky will premiere on Netflix on December 23. Watch the preview in the space below:

The trailer does a good job of providing an overview of the main plot, cutting between Augustine's story on Earth and the Ether crew in space. The astronauts haven't heard from mission control in three weeks and are concerned about that radio silence (knowing nothing of the catastrophic events that have taken place. Similar to the Midnight Sky images released in September, the trailer shows David Oyelowo, Kyle Chandler, and Jones as the astronauts, setting up their prominent roles in the film. Netflix will certainly be hoping that Clooney can strike gold for them come December, as he gave Hulu the critically acclaimed Catch-22 series. It will be interesting to see how Clooney, the director, handles this space/post-apocalyptic blend in The Midnight Sky.

The Midnight Sky's synopsis reads: This post-apocalyptic tale follows Augustine (George Clooney), a lonely scientist in the Arctic, as he races to stop Sully (Felicity Jones) and her fellow astronauts from returning home to a mysterious global catastrophe.
