Karen Gillan says Nebula’s Infinity War trailer absence makes sense and promises that the character will be back in action in the Avengers sequel. In just six months, the culmination of the entire MCU to date will kick off. Characters like Valkyrie and Doctor Strange will join forces with the Avengers, while the Guardians of the Galaxy will head to Earth (after the clean Thor off their windshield). While the Avengers: Infinity War teaser trailer is packed full of exciting moments, fans have noticed some key elements are missing.

There are a number of characters missing from the Avengers: Infinity War trailer, including the likes of Maria Hill, Ant-Man, and the aforementioned Valkyrie. Meanwhile, Nebula was noticeably absent from the first look at the epic team-up film. Considering Karen Gillen was one of the first actors confirmed for the movie and Nebula is said to have a big part in the throw-down against her adoptive father Thanos, many fans were puzzled to not see the cantankerous cyborg in attendance. For Gillan, however, the whole thing makes sense.

Radio Times spoke with Karen Gillan about her upcoming role in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, and the discussion eventually veered into Avengers: Infinity War territory. When asked whether Nebula’s absence from the trailer bothered her, Gillan claimed the whole thing will make sense in time.

“How do I say this without giving anything away? It makes sense – I feel like Nebula might be in future trailers.”

While Nebula appearing in future trailers seems a given, it’s likely her considerable confrontation with Thanos was just too much to squeeze into the trailer. For one, Nebula isn’t a huge character in the MCU. As for her arc in the movie, it could simply be that it was too spoilerly to show any of it this early. Still, Gillan assures fans that Nebula will get her due:

“It’s gonna be so good! A lot of stuff that we have planted in previous films is going to all come together in quite an explosive way, I would say. Daddy issues will be faced. Thanos is the big bad guy, the ultimate supervillain, so this is the biggest fight that the Avengers will ever have. And being his daughter, Nebula will get entwined in there somehow.”

To be fair, even the main Guardians only made a cameo at the end of the Infinity War teaser. For the most part, Thanos and the Earth-bound heroes factored into the action in the trailer. Nebula, Gamora, and the other Guardians, meanwhile, will likely have a stronger presence when the full-length trailer for the film arrives and details more of the movie’s plot and character the team-ups.

Both Nebula and Gamora have had a rocky relationship in the past, but Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 showed them finally reconciling in a way. Their anger at Thanos, however, will be something to behold considering the torture and pain he put them through. It will also be the key emotional hook for the battle against Thanos when Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters
