FOX Fall 2018 TV Series Trailers: The Passage, Last Man Standing & More

FOX recently delivered its upfront presentation to advertisers, and in the process shared several trailers for the new shows coming this fall and in the early part of 2019. The network made waves recently, having canceled three of its popular comedies, chief among them, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which found a new home at NBC. But, not to be outdone, FOX decided it was time to revive Tim Allen’s Last Man Standing, which was canceled last year by ABC. Whether or not it will prove to be a smart move or an obvious attempt at courting Roseanne-like ratings remains to be seen.

In its presentation, the network delivered trailers for two upcoming comedies, The Cool Kids and Rel. The former is produced and written by It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’s Charlie Day, and stars the likes of David Allen Grier, Martin Mull, Vicki Lawrence, and Leslie Jordan. The latter stars Get Out standout LiRel Howrey as a man trying to put his life back together after his wife leaves him.

FOX also offered a glimpse at the return of everyone’s favorite ruiner of sci-fi movies, Neil deGrasse Tyson in Cosmos: Possible Worlds, as well as two wildly different dramas in Proven Innocent and The Passage. One is an incredibly earnest look at lawyers fighting to free the wrongfully convicted, while the other is a road series that also involves government-created vampires. I’ll let you figure out which is which.

Take a look at the trailers below:

    The Cool Kids

    Cosmos Possible Worlds

    The Passage

    Proven Innocent

    Rel

    Last Man Standing

All in all, it looks like FOX has a fairly strong lineup ready for the 2018-2019 season, though The Passage looks to have the potential to be its biggest hit (unless audiences really turn out for more Last Man Standing, that is). Though it involves vampires, the trailer played up the dynamic between Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Saniyya Sidney more. The result looked to be less The Strain and more NBC’s one-and-done Alfonso Cuaron sci-fi drama Believe. Since it likely won't premiere until early next year, we’ll have to wait and see if the network decides to market it differently to audiences than to advertisers.

As for the rest of the trailers, it’s kind of a mixed bag. The Cool Kids certainly has the talent behind it to be funny and there were some laughs in the trailer — which is more than can be said for NBC’s trailers — while Rel seemed as though it might need a few episodes before the cast, that also includes Sinbad, really comes together. Proven Innocent matches NBC’s New Amsterdam on the sincerity front, but it does have Vincent Kartheiser with a glorious beard, so it’s probably going to be worth a watch.

@Rhialto thanks for these. Some interesting lineup from Fox.
The Passage looks interesting. Is that Mark-Paul Gosselaar from Saved by the bell?
