NBC has confirmed it's fully invested in rebooting Xena: Warrior Princess for television, as development on the series has already begun.

"Yes, we're in the early stages of developing a new take on Xena and we're looking for a writer. We want to do it," NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt shared with THR at the Television Critics Association press tour.

Just last month, word of a Xena reboot first surfaced, with the show's former star Lucy Lawless then tweeting it was merely a rumor. Greenblatt says the network is interested in finding a way to include Lawless in the rebooted series, though nothing has been locked down just yet.

"We'd love to have Lucy be a part of it — if we felt that her presence didn't overshadow the direction we take with it," he explained. "I'm not sure how she could be part of it if she wasn't playing Xena, and I don't know if that's a direction we'll ever go."

THR says original Xena producers executive producers Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi are involved in the new version.

NBC has a busy fall schedule, not the least of which includes another reboot, Heroes Reborn.
