‘In Pieces,’ which will be hotly anticipated for what the actress might say about her famous loves and celebrated career, will be published next fall.

Sally Field, one of the most celebrated actresses of her generation, is telling her life story. Her memoir, In Pieces, will be published next fall, publisher Grand Central announced Wednesday.

Field, who has earned two best actress Oscars (Norma Rae, Places of the Heart), three Emmys and numerous other awards and nominations, has a career that stretches back to the early 1960s. She has never revealed much about her private life, which includes two marriages and a celebrated romance with Burt Reynolds in the 1970s and early 1980s.

Field, 71, is said to have been writing the book for five years.

In a statement, the actress said, “In Pieces is about the little girl that I was, about the teenager who backed into becoming a celebrity, and about the craft that taught me to stand on my feet, a craft that helped me find my way out of a complicated childhood."

Raised in Pasadena, Field got her big break in 1964 when she was cast as the titular surf girl on Gidget. After that series ended, she starred as the lead on The Flying Nun from 1967-1970. In the 1970s, she transitioned to film and won her first Academy Award for playing a factory worker turned union organizer in 1979’s Norma Rae. She won a second best actress trophy for 1984’s Pieces of the Heart. Field’s spontaneous outburst of “You like me, right now, you like me!” during her acceptance speech has become one of the most imitated lines in Oscars history.

Other film roles include playing Mary Todd Lincoln in Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, for which she earned a best supporting actress nomination; Absence of Malice; Kiss Me Goodbye; Steel Magnolias; Mrs. Doubtfire; and Forrest Gump.

Field appeared in four movies with Reynolds: Smokey and the Bandit, The End, Hooper and Smokey and the Bandit II.

In 2012, she was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and in 2015, she was honored by President Barack Obama with the National Medal of Arts.

Field has three sons and five grandchildren.
