Sam Raimi may direct Love May Fail; Lizzy Caplan is in talks for Now You See Me 2; Legendary’s family adventure Figment gets a director; new release dates for Jem and the Holograms and more; and the Warcraft movie gets a composer.

Sam Raimi is in talks to direct Love May Fail, an adaptation of the novel by Matthew Quick (Silver Linings Playbook).

Although Love May Fail doesn’t hit bookstores until June of next year, Sony was quick to scoop up the novel and start shopping for directors. Since Silver Linings Playbook, every Quick novel has been in high demand, even those that haven’t actually released.
For Raimi, Love May Fail represents a departure, of sorts, from both the blockbuster and horror material that audiences have come to expect from the director. Still, with Raimi on-board this is sure to be a project worth keeping an eye on.

Masters of Sex star Lizzy Caplan may join the cast of Now You See Me 2.

Right now it sounds like Caplan’s involvement is more or less a done deal, provided she can work around her Masters of Sex shooting schedule. If she is cast, Caplan will play the female lead in the magical sequel.

Some might be quick to point out that is was Isla Fisher who played the female lead in the first film, but she will not be returning. Caplan will, however, be joining returning stars Jesse Eisenberg, Dave Franco, Mark Ruffalo, and newcomer Daniel Radcliffe.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney has successfully pitched his feature film Figment to Legendary Pictures.

McElhenney will write and direct the film, which revolves around an imaginative boy’s adventure with his family. Some are comparing Figment to the Amblin Entertainment films (E.T., The Goonies) of the ’80s.

Most may know McElhenney solely for his work as an actor on Always Sunny, but he believes so strongly in this concept that he prepared a 4-minute test reel and a 20-minute pitch. Clearly the actor has some creative chops, which makes Figment an intriguing prospect.

Several upcoming films have selected release dates or changed release dates within the past week.

First up is Jem and the Holograms, the adaptation of the popular kids TV show. It may seem like Jem has little hope of finding success, but Universal has enough faith in the picture to give it an October 23, 2015 release date.

The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death has moved its release date forward to January 2, 2015. January is typically a tough month for new releases, but horror tends to surprise after the New Year. Unfortunately, without Daniel Radcliffe as the lead The Woman in Black 2 might have a hard time duplicating its predecessor’s breakout success.

And finally the horror flick Cybernatural has staked its claim on April 10, 2015. The film focuses on a group of teens that are stalked by a mysterious force after a bullied classmate commits suicide. Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov is producing the film alongside horror guru Jason Blum.

The Warcraft movie has nabbed Pacific Rim composer Ramin Djawadi for its score.

Considering Pacific Rim and Warcraft are both Legendary Pictures releases, it’s no surprise that the studio would turn to Djawadi once again. In addition to Pacific Rim, Djawadi has also scored several recent movies and TV shows like The Strain, Person of Interest, and Dracula Untold (another Legendary film).

Djawadi’s biggest claim to fame, though, is his work on HBO’s Game of Thrones. Yes, he’s the guy who created THAT theme song.
