While many blockbusters this summer are attempting to reinvigorate old franchises (like Jurassic World, Terminator Genisys and Mad Max: Fury Road), Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation is continuing the series that began in 1996. Brad Bird (Tomorrowland, The Incredibles) directed 2011’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. Now, Tom Cruise is returning again to the franchise as Ethan Hunt in the film written and directed by his Edge of Tomorrow and Jack Reacher collaborator Christopher McQuarrie.

As the release date for Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation draws closer, Paramount Pictures has ramped up its advertising campaign by debuting three new TV spots. Additionally, early reactions to the film are starting to appear online, and they’re largely positive.

Released by CBM, the three new Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation promos (below) feature even more of the action sequences performed by Cruise and his returning cast members Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn and Jeremy Renner as William Brandt. Joining the Mission: Impossible franchise for Rogue Nation are Rebecca Ferguson as Ilsa Faust and Alec Baldwin as the head of the CIA.







The first trailer for the film was received very well and it was recently revealed that Rogue Nation tested better with audiences than Ghost Protocol. Additionally, Paramount seems to have enough faith in the franchise that they put Mission: Impossible 6 into development back in May. Given all these positive indications, the early reactions to Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation don’t come as much of a surprise.

That being said, Rogue Nation will have a lot to live up to in Bird’s Ghost Protocol, which elevated the spy thriller series (read our review). All early indications point to Rogue Nation surpassing Ghost Protocol in fans’ expectations and enjoyment, but this won’t be an easy feat since Bird’s entry was so beloved. How Rogue Nation compares to Ghost Protocol and delivers another entertaining entry to the Mission: Impossible series remains to be seen when the film opens later this month.
