Mike Rowe has built himself a rather impressive following over the years, and thanks to an announcement today by CNN, those fans are going to be happy to know his new show Somebody’s Gotta Do it isn’t leaving their television screens any time soon.

According to the network, Somebody’s Gotta Do it has been renewed for season 2. Said CNN:

One of the nation’s most unique storytellers introduced us to fascinating tradespeople, innovators and entrepreneurs who bring a wonderful passion to their work. Rowe will return to the network for a second season of Somebody’s Gotta Do It, which since its launch in October, has more than doubled MSNBC in the key demo rating and posted growth versus prior programming in the time period.

The network also revealed renewals had taken place for Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown and Lisa Ling’s Life with Lisa Ling in the same announcement.

Like MythBusters, Rowe’s Discovery series Dirty Jobs managed to cultivate a large niche-following during its production – a following that only grew larger and more passionate when the series was quietly cancelled by the network in 2012. Since then, Rowe’s been looking for a way to revive the non-scripted series, and when the announcement of the CNN show came down, the host made it clear the new program was, essentially, a successor to Dirty Jobs and that nearly all of the crew behind the original Discovery Channel series would be returning for Sombody’s Gotta Do it.

What makes Rowe such an interesting personality is his every-man attitude. He comes off as an average Joe among a sea of the fascinating. Dirty Jobs took him to exotic, off-beat places, and when he was in the thick of it, his reactions to the situations in question often felt like ones we all would make if presented with the same scenario. Not fear or disgust, just confusion and fascination.

While the world of 24 hour cable news is a fickle one, it’s worth noting when it comes to original series, CNN has actually been firing on all cylinders. If it’s not Somebody’s Gotta Do it, it’s Morgan Spurlock and Inside Man. It’s rather impressive, actually, how diverse a programming slate CNN’s beginning to grow over its competitors, and with any luck, they’ll start following in kind sooner rather than later.

The Somebody’s Gotta Do it season 1 finale airs this Sunday at 9/8c on CNN.
