Ant-Man star Michael Peña has joined the cast of Paramount Pictures' upcoming Dora the Explorer movie as Cole Márquez, Dora's father. The film will star Isabela Moner, who appeared in Transformers: The Last Knight and Sicario 2: Soldado, as young adventurer Dora.

The news of Peña's casting comes shortly after we learned that Eva Longoria will play Dora's mother, Elena Márquez. The movie is currently being filmed in Queensland, Australia, and James Bobin (The Muppets) is directing from a script by Nicholas Stoller (who wrote both The Muppets and its sequel, Muppets Most Wanted). The cast also includes Eugenio Derbez, Madeleine Madden, Micke Moreno, Nicholas Coombe, Adriana Barraza and Temuera Morrison.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the plot of Dora the Explorer will see Dora's Mami and Papi in peril as Dora leads her cousin Diego, her monkey friend Boots, and a group of teens "on a Goonies-esque adventure to save her parents and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost Inca civilization." Dora is a young girl in the popular Nickelodeon show, but in the movie she will be a teenager. Her parents are explorers who have brought her with them on adventures through the jungle for most of her life, but decide that it's time for her to go to high school. However, it sounds like Dora will end up doing what she does best anyway.

Peña recently reprised his role as Scott Lang's dependable pal Luis in Ant-Man and the Wasp, where he once again joined in the fight to keep valuable Pym technology out of the hands of bad guys. He also once again showed off his masterful storytelling skills in a recurring gag where he narrates a rambling, convoluted story as it plays out in flashbacks with actors lip-syncing his lines. Peña recently had a starring role in Netflix sci-fi movie Extinction, where he played a father trying to keep his family alive amid an alien invasion.

Dora the Explorer will be competing at the box office next summer, and if Bobin manages to turn out a movie as entertaining as The Muppets, it could win over young kids and adults alike. Peña has more than proven himself as a standout actor in both comedy and drama films, and makes for an excellent addition to the cast. We'll keep you updated on any further Dora news as production continues.
