Ever since he announced the return of Megan Fox into the fold, producer Michael Bay has been relatively quiet about his upcoming reboot of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” (now currently going under the title “Ninja Turtles”).

That changes today, with the trades reporting that former “Hunger Games” actor Alan Ritchson has landed one of the turtle roles.

Ritchson, who will be playing Gloss in “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” (though comic book geeks may remember him more as Aquaman from the CW’s “Smallville” TV show), will be wielding some dangerous sais in the upcoming “Ninja Turtles”, where instead of slipping on suits like the previous movies, he’ll instead be mo-capping the character Raphael ala “Avatar”.

Although Bay is producing the film (and no doubt his name will be used heavily during the promotional rounds next year), the film will actually be directed by Jonathan Liebesman (of “Battle: L.A.” and “Wrath of the Titans” fame). The plot of “Ninja Turtles” is a tad fuzzy at the moment, depending on who you’ve been reading, but the turtles will apparently be posited as space aliens this time around.

Ritchson joins Megan Fox, who will play the turtles’ human ally April O’Neil in the upcoming live-action film.

The turtles are scheduled to order some pizzas next May 16, 2014.
