Michael Bay Not Involved With Dora The Explorer Movie
Michael Bay and his production company Platinum Dunes do not have any involvement on Paramount Pictures' live-action adaptation of Dora the Explorer, the filmmaker clarified. Running from 15 years from 2000 to 2014, the kid-friendly educational cartoon of the same name enjoyed success all over the world and now, it's coming to the big screen with Isabel Moner bringing the titular character to life. Specific plot details for the film are still unknown but it's expected that the movie will mine inspiration from Dora's famous adventures, only this time, it's (hopefully) going to involve more complex missions than just crossing a bridge and counting stars.
Moner and Bay have a working history with the former starring in 2017's Transformers: The Last Knight which was directed by the filmmaker. So it made sense that the two will once again work together (although on a different capacity) on Dora the Explorer. However, as it turns out, that is not the case.
The announcement posted on Bay's official Twitter account clarified that the director is not involved in the live-action Dora the Explorer movie. Although not personally tweeted by the filmmaker, the statement says that "Bay or Platinum Dunes has nothing to do with the Dora movie." It also gives fans an update on what the director is up to right now, revealing that he is set to start filming the forthcoming Netflix project starring Ryan Reynolds, Six Underground. When news of the Dora the Explorer movie first broke out last October Bay was reportedly involved in the project and so was Platinum Dunes as the movie's production company. It wasn't that difficult to believe considering back in 2013, and again in 2015, persistent rumors claimed the director was attached to the live-action adaptation film. For years, Paramount Pictures had been trying to launch the flick with no success. With Bay's long-standing relationship with the studio thanks to several of his films touted among the company's most popular offerings, it's not outside the realm of possibility that he may have had a hand on their latest adaptation. Sadly, the statement didn't elaborate on whether the director was initially working on the film only to walk away from it or if he really was never associated with it.
With Bay and his production company busy with their respective projects, Dora the Explorer is moving along just fine with Paramount releasing the public's first look at Moner as the titular character. The image was sent as part of the announcement that principal photography for the film is already underway on Australia's Gold Coast, in the state of Queensland at Village Roadshow Studios. Joining Moner in the movie are Adriana Barraza (Dora's grandmother Abuelita Valerie), Temuera Morrison (Powell), as well as Eugenio Derbez (Alejandro).
