"Men in Black" may be a bit of a misnomer for the upcoming reboot of the sci-fi comedy franchise.

Speaking with the BBC, producer Laurie MacDonald revealed the upcoming film would include a woman in a leading role.

"There will be a prominent woman in black in the fourth [film]," she said. MacDonald and her husband Walter Parkes have worked as producers on the previous three films and are returning again to work on the fourth.

The film is still very early in production, and as such, no further details about the female character or the actor who will portray her are known. However, there is one prominent actor that may very well make a return.

"Never count Will out," Parkes said when asked if series regular Will Smith would return for the reboot. Previously, it was rumored that Smith would not be returning to the franchise.

Men in Black is one of several films lately to announce more gender variation within the roles, alongside Paul Feig's Ghostbusters and the gender-swapped Road House remake.
