Warner Bros.' prehistoric shark film Meg has reportedly found its leading man in Jason Statham.

According to Deadline, the Hollywood action star is currently in talks to play a key role in the upcoming novel-to-film adaptation, as the long-gestating project moves forward with Jon Turbeltaub on board to direct.

Meg tells the story of an attempt to take down Megaladon, a giant prehistoric shark that is killing swimmers all along the coast of China. Dean Georgaris wrote the script based on Steve Alten's novel and Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce alongside Colin Wilson and Belle Avery.

In addition to starring in the Transporter series, Statham has also starred in Spy, The Expendables, Snatch, and Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. He also played a villain in Furious 7 and will be returning for Fast 8.
