Viewers should expect to see plenty of mature content when Mayans M.C. premieres on September 4. The show, as spinoff of FX’s Sons of Anarchy, won’t be a watered down version of its predecessor. Instead, as cast member Antonio Jaramillo states, it will deliver more of what audiences “expect from Kurt Sutter." And considering where the creator took fans during Sons' seven-season run, it’s safe to say this new project will travel a similar path.

Whether people were being shot, stabbed, set on fire, or murdered with a grilling fork in their kitchen sink, Sons of Anarchy was never lacking for reasons to be slapped with a TV-MA rating. And that’s saying nothing of the show's dialogue, the sort that was normally reserved for premium cable channels like HBO and Showtime not too long ago. As it stands, it seems. nearly four years away from the world he created hasn’t softened Sutter’s touch when it comes to mature content.

Jaramillo said as much in a recent interview with Screen Rant. The actor, who plays Michael ‘Riz’ Ariza, said that viewers can expect the show to get dark and dangerous in its exploration of the Mayans MC Souther Cali charter.

“Well, I think people know what to expect from Kurt Sutter. He is the executive and the creator. If you've seen Sons of Anarchy you can expect that and a lot more from Mayans M.C. because now you have a bunch of Hispanic actors in the room and, like I said, it gets a little spicier. It's a little more confrontational. It's going to be different but you can expect a lot of similar things that you saw in Sons. Kurt Sutter likes to push the envelope and he's going to do that.

It's a motorcycle club. If you're going to write a story about a motorcycle club they usually go where other people tend not to go. A motorcycle club is involved in things that most people aren't involved with, so it's going to get a little dark and a little dangerous and a little murky. They do things that people tend not to do, and we're looking at their lives, so we're going to really see what happens within those parameters.”

The series certainly has a lot to live up to, so it will be interesting to see how audiences react to the new show. At least they won’t be complaining that Sutter’s lost his edge.

Mayans M.C. premieres Tuesday, September 4 @10pm on FX.
