Max Landis may be tasked with working on a Creature from the Black Lagoon remake. It's unclear to what extent he would be working on the film, but his recent comments on Reddit hinted at his involvement.

The original Creature from the Black Lagoon was released over 60 years ago, and was directed by Jack Arnold. It focuses on a monster who lurks in a lagoon in the Amazonian jungle. Once discovered by scientists, they attempt to capture the creature to study it, and of course, things don't go according to plan. The creature commonly referred to as Gill-Man was part of Universal's classic monster movie era. Universal announced a few years ago that they would be rebooting several classic monster movies, but much like the events of Creature from the Black Lagoon, things didn't go according to plan. The Dark Universe seemed to be failing before it even lifted off. That being said, Landis still recently hinted at his involvement with a Creature from the Black Lagoon remake, even though the Dark Universe idea seems to be in trouble.

When responding to a fan on Reddit about his involvement with the project, Landis - who goes by the username Uptomyknees - mentioned that he has been staying very busy with his career, and the multiple projects he's been attached to. He went on to say that his career is now moving at a more manageable pace, so future projects "will be along on a more normal schedule". This shouldn't be taken as official confirmation of his involvement, but he also didn't specifically deny that he was working on a remake of Creature from the Black Lagoon either.

The son of legendary filmmaker John Landis, Max has gotten himself into some trouble recently with sexual assault allegations creeping up on Twitter. Despite this, Landis has been staying busy writing for projects, most notably Netflix's Bright. Landis also made headlines when it was announced that he would be writing and directing a remake of his dad's 1981 film An American Werewolf in London, although that project now seems to be in limbo.

Despite poor reviews for the Dark Universe's first installment, The Mummy, the series - much like some of its undead monsters - still seems like it might not be completely deceased. As of right now, any news should be regarded as good news given the Dark Universe's current state. That being said, news that Landis may be working on Creature from the Black Lagoon may anger fans, given the allegations against him.
