Priyanka Chopra Jonas has entered final talks to join The Matrix 4 cast. After years of rumors about Warner Bros. developing new Matrix films (be they sequels, reboots, or spinoffs), the studio finally confirmed the sci-fi franchise is coming back late last summer. The Matrix 4 will be the first live-action movie in the series since the original trilogy concluded with the back-to-back release of The Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions in 2003. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are confirmed to reprise their roles as Neo and Trinity in the newest chapter, even though their characters (seemingly?) died during Revolutions' third act.

For the most part, The Matrix 4 cast will be composed of franchise newcomers like Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Neil Patrick Harris, and Toby Onwumere in as-yet unknown roles. Reeves and Moss won't be the only familiar faces in the movie though; reportedly, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Lambert Wilson are also set to reprise their Reloaded and Revolutions roles as Niobe and The Merovingian for this new entry. Nevertheless, it's expected The Matrix 4 will focus more on its new players than its returning ones, Chopra Jones' character included.

Variety reports Chopra Jones (who, as an actor, is best known for her breakout role on the TV show Quantico and fun turns in films like Baywatch and Isn't It Romantic) is near to closing a deal to join the previously reported actors in The Matrix 4 cast. With production about to begin in California, she's apparently worked things out scheduling-wise, allowing her to shoot her scenes for the Matrix sequel concurrently with filming on the upcoming Amazon series Citadel (which Chopra Jones is starring in alongside Richard Madden).

Much like the rest of the cast (Jonathan Groff included), Chopra Jones' role in The Matrix 4 is being kept firmly under lock and key for the time being. Lana Wachowski, who co-created The Matrix with her sibling Lily, is directing and co-writing this new film with Aleksandar Hemon (Sense8) and David Mitchell (Cloud Atlas), but for now it's anyone's guess how she intends to continue the story from this point on. However, judging by everything she and Lily have gotten up to since Revolutions, it's fair to assume The Matrix 4 won't be lacking for ambition or mind-bending ideas. Case in point, rumor has it the original Matrix trilogy will exist within the world of The Matrix 4... somehow.

As for Chopra Jones, she's the latest addition to what reads on paper like a great cast of Matrix newcomers. The original Matrix was, in many ways, ahead of the curve in Hollywood when it came to inclusive casting, so it's good to see that trend will also continue with The Matrix 4. WB has yet to confirm anything, but it stands to reason the studio sees this as a potential fresh start for the franchise and not simply a one-off revival. Should the film prove to be a success, it will have a talented crew of actors to pick up the torch from Reeves and Moss and carry things forward from here.
