Update: Marvel has now released a second but no less cryptic teaser. Check it out below:

Our first guess is that the teaser has something to do with Mark Waid and Chris Samnee's upcoming Black Widow comic, although yellow isn't a color normally associated with Widow. Maybe it has to do with Spider-Woman, Miles Morales or any number of other insect-themed characters in the Marvel U? Heck, it could be Marvel's way of teasing a Lord of the Rings comic.

The original story is below:

Marvel has released a rather cryptic new teaser image that hints towards a major comic book development in the months ahead. We don't know what characters or franchises are involved, but it appears that a major Marvel character (or more than one character) will be returning to life soon.

Check out the teaser below:

So what does this mean? The most obvious possibility is that Marvel will finally be resurrecting Jean Grey. Jean died 12 years ago in New X-Men #150, and not counting the presence of her younger self in All-New X-Men has stayed dead ever since. Given how prominent a role Jean is playing in this summer's X-Men: Apocalypse, now may be the right time to finally bring her back into play. But this would hardly be the first time that Marvel has teased Jean's return and then swerved in a different direction.

The teaser could also be indicating the return of another massively popular and very dead X-Man, Wolverine. He died at the end of the aptly named mini-series Death of Wolverine in late 2014. While other versions of the character have appeared and both Old Man Logan and X-23 have risen up to take his place, Marvel could be planning a return of the original Wolverine.

Other major Marvel characters that might be due for a revival include Mar-Vell, Professor Xavier, Richard Rider, Gwen Stacy, Apocalypse and Doctor Octopus. We'd guess that Uncle Ben at least is safe, but ten years ago we would have said the same thing about Bucky Barnes...

Or perhaps this teaser is offering a play on words and shouldn't be taken literally. Perhaps it has something to do with Deadpool, or maybe the Marvel Zombies? Maybe it's teasing the return of the Ultimate Universe (which was destroyed in the first issue of Secret Wars last year). Or maybe this teaser isn't actually tied to the Marvel Universe at all, but rather Marvel's Star Wars comics. Imagine the hubbub it would cause if Marvel revealed that they were bringing someone like Obi-Wan Kenobi or Yoda back to life.
