New writer Saladin Ahmed promises "a two-fisted, big-hearted wild ride of a book."

Come spring, Marvel will look to the multiverse to save the world on a regular basis, with a new revival of Exiles, its early 2000s series bringing together characters from different realities to make sure everything doesn’t go wrong somewhere in infinity every month.

The new Exiles series will be penned by Black Bolt writer and YA novelist Saladin Ahmed, with art by Javier Rodriguez and Alvaro Lopez, and team Blink — the breakout star of the original incarnation of the series — with a number of alternate versions of familiar Marvel characters, including an adult version of Ms. Marvel and an adorably cute anime version of Wolverine.

Ahmed, in a statement released by the company, pitched the new series as a love letter to a couple of classic Marvel properties, calling it “a two-fisted, big-hearted wild ride of a book about a diverse team of alternate universe Marvel heroes banding together to stop a dire threat to the multiverse. Sort of What If? meets classic X-Men." He added, “It's a dream of a book to be working on for a Marvel fanboy such as myself, full of deep-cut guest stars and mind-blowing Easter eggs. But it's also new-reader friendly — a self-contained story of a group of misfits coming together, learning to trust each other, and, if they're lucky, saving the !@$# universe.”

The original Exiles series ran for 100 issues before being relaunched as New Exiles, and then a second Exiles series, which ended in 2009. The concept was briefly revived as the short-lived series X-Treme X-Men in 2012.

Exiles No. 1 will be released digitally and in comic book stores April 11.
