No less than 35 Avengers characters are featured in Vanity Fair‘s newly-published Avengers: Infinity War-themed photoshoot and cover story. The third and still-untitled fourth Avengers movies will serve as the culmination of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s overarching narrative, paying off some 22 movies’ worth of storytelling that began with Tony Stark building himself a metal man suit in a cave and will conclude with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes joining forces with the Guardians of the Galaxy to prevent Mad Titan Thanos (Josh Brolin) from getting his mitts on all six Infinity Stones. Only after that will Marvel Studios reveal its official Phase 4 plans.

In addition to Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Infinity War will feature Earth-based MCU characters like Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans), Clint Barton/Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Bruce Banner/Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), among many, many others. They will be joined in their latest and biggest fight yet by Thor Odinson (Chris Hemsworth) and the entire Guardians of the Galaxy team, including new addition Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Gamora’s fellow daughter of Thanos, Nebula (Karen Gillan), and even teenaged Groot. Naturally, all of these characters made the cut for Vanity Fair‘s Infinity War photo portfolio and cover story, along with several other familiar MCU faces.

Vanity Fair‘s Infinity War photos and covers, which you can check out in the gallery below, also features key players from Doctor Strange, including, of course, the Sorcerer Supreme himself, Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch). Several characters from next year’s Black Panther solo movie made the cut too, in addition to T’Challa himself (Chadwick Boseman), as did Evangeline Lilly’s Hope van Dyne and her Wasp costume from the upcoming sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp.

It’s worth noting that Natasha Romanoff has the same blonde hair in these Vanity Fair photos like she does in the Infinity War banner that was released at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year, signaling that she will be keeping that hair color for the entirety of the film. Steve Rogers, on the other hand, is clean-shaven in these magazine covers and images, further indicating that Steve will be abandoning his bearded look from the banner (which he presumably fashioned for himself after going on the run at the end of Captain America: Civil War), sooner rather than later in the next Avengers movie.
There aren’t too many surprises in these Vanity Fair photos, all things considered.

Characters like T’Challa’s sister Shuri (Letitia Wright) and Strange’s fellow spell-bender Wong (B.D. Wong) have both been confirmed to appear in Infinity War for awhile now, so their inclusion here only makes sense. The appearance of characters like Laura Barton (Linda Cardellini), aka. Mrs. Hawkeye, in these photos is less expected but it’s only fitting that they would appear in the film at some point. Their inclusion here isn’t necessarily a testament to the size of their role in the movie either, seeing as Stan ‘The Man’ Lee made the cut here and isn’t expected to make more than his customary brief cameo appearance in Infinity War itself.

Marketing for Avengers: Infinity War, which is being co-directed by Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Civil War helmers Joe and Anthony Russo, is only getting started and Vanity Fair is already teasing that more Infinity War-related goodness will be arriving later this week. It’s expected that this first wave of serious promotion for the film will culminate with the release of the Infinity War trailer online, before it begins screening in theaters this December. So stay tuned for much, much more!
