Mark Wahlberg's Diet To Stay In Mark Wahlberg Shape For Transformers Is Outrageous

People think that being an actor is all about the fame and the glamor. While it might still be mostly about that, you can't say that actors don't do what they need to do in order to get ready for their roles. What Mark Wahlberg does to stay in shape while filming Transformers: The Last Knight sounds absolutely brutal. The actor recently discussed what he has to go through in order to look like an action hero alongside giant robots.

I start at, like, 2 a.m. Egg whites anbulk up d Ezekiel bread with some almond butter. Then I have some Greek yogurt and a shake. And turkey burgers with sweet potato. Then I have a chicken. ... The kids are eating pancakes and I'm just roasting a chicken, and the whole house smells like chicken, and they are like, 'Dad, you are disgusting.'

There is so much to unpack here. First off, 2 a.m? Isn't getting a good night's sleep also supposed to be good for you physically? Where exactly is the trade-off between keeping your metabolism going and getting some decent sleep? Eating more frequently is important when you're working out (so I hear) because you need the calories to burn off, but all this seems like an awful lot to eat before breakfast. The bread, and shake, and turkey burgers are all before his kids are eating pancakes. That seems excessive. I have to agree with his kids, though, chicken and pancakes are just wrong, the fact that chicken and waffles are actually a thing has never made sense.

Mark Wahlberg discussed his "crash diet" on Live with Kelly. Apparently, the actor ran into Michael Bay before filming began, and the director gave him a hard time, telling him he couldn't look the way he did at the time, in the film. Wahlberg wasn't in great shape by his own admission (too many Wahlburgers?) which sent him on the super diet.

It's funny how often actors have to go on crazy diets in order to look right for a part. Much of the time the need is to bulk up in order to play an action hero, as it is here. Other times, however, an actor needs to actually get out of shape, gain weight, or lose a great deal of it, in order to play a part. You'd never think that managing your diet would be an important part of being a professional actor, but there you are.
