Fans of The Dark Crystal film have been offered a glimpse at the new tie-in prequel series, together with news of the talented voice cast for the 10-part production coming in 2019.

The original 1982 cult classic about a young Gelfling who restores peace to the world was a massive hit, with plenty of plaudits handed to Jim Henson and his co-director Frank Oz.

Now, close to 37 years on, fans have a new animated fantasy series - The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance - to look forward to next year.

To build on the hype, Netflix released its first images from the production and revealed a seriously talented list of names among its voice cast.

Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor Joy and Nathalie Emmanuel play the three main Gelfling characters Rian, Brea and Deet.

They will work alongside the likes of Caitriona Balfe, Helena Bonham-Carter, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Theo James, Alicia Vikander, Mark Hamill, Andy Samberg and Simon Pegg.

Cindy Holland, VP of Original Series, Netflix said “incredible voice talent” was needed to match the stunning visual world and artistry of the puppeteers.

“I am proud to say that this may be one of the finest casts assembled from the world’s favourite TV shows and movies,” she said.

“I am now even more excited for fans to come back to Thra with us, and for new viewers to discover this world for the very first time.”

Age of Resistance is set years prior to the events of the 80s feature and follows the key trio as they inspire a rebellion after discovering the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power.
