Beyoncé is rumored to be in talks to record the theme song for James Bond 25. If it turns out to be true, this news would mark quite the turnaround for Queen B’s cinematic songbook: 15 years ago, she appeared in and provided music for the spy spoof Austin Powers in Goldmember. A couple of years before that, the Destiny’s Child tune “Independent Women Part I” appeared in Charlie’s Angels. Doing a Bond theme would massively surpass those achievements.
The rumors of Beyoncé’s involvement in James Bond 25 come just as the film is beginning to take shape. Although there isn’t a director officially attached as of yet, Daniel Craig confirmed his return as 007 earlier in August. The returning Bond actor told Stephen Colbert, “I think this is it. I just want to go out on a high note. I can’t wait.”Speaking of high notes, Beyoncé’s vocal dexterity would undoubtedly be an asset to the film. Bey is one of the few artists alive today that could surpass Adele’s impressive vocal work to Skyfall, a feat that many believe Sam Smith failed to perform on Spectre. According to the report from British tabloid The Daily Star, Beyoncé has chatted to Adele about the possibility of taking the gig:

The two spoke before Bey’s first meeting with film bosses and Adele told her how co-writing and performing a Bond theme gave her an amazing career hike”.
Beyoncé’s career is hardly in need of a hike, though, which is one reason to take this rumor with a sizeable pinch of salt. The Daily Star’s report adds, “This is the only project [Beyoncé] is remotely interested in right now”, which also sounds somewhat odd. Beyoncé is a prolific recording artist who tours the globe regularly and also acts in major movies. In addition, she’s reportedly close right now to signing on to co-produce the soundtrack for Disney’s CGI-driven The Lion King retelling.
However, although the quotes from an unnamed source in this tabloid rumor do have a dodgy air to them, this is still a highly exciting proposition. An incredible theme song from one of the most talented people on the planet would help Bond 25 end Craig’s tenure in the tuxedo with a touch of real class. It’s also easy to imagine Beyoncé appearing on screen as a glamorous Bond girl, although Sony would surely need to fork out big bucks to secure that and a song.
