At the New York City premiere of Daredevil on March 10, actor Mike Colter revealed that season one of Netflix's Luke Cage series would premiere on September 30, 2016.

Colter, who portrays Luke Cage in Marvel Cinematic Universe, announced the series release date during an interview at the premiere with Marvel.

When Colter attended the 2016 winter Television Critics' Association press tour, Colter made a point to say Luke Cage won't feel like a sequel to Jessica Jones, even though he originated on that show.

"We pride ourselves in all being unique shows, and Luke Cage is definitely not a sequel to Jessica Jones or a spinoff," Colter said. "The show that we're filming now, Marvel's Luke Cage as opposed to Marvel's Jessica Jones, is completely different. He goes off to uptown and he does his own thing, and there will be some of that. The time lapse is not that long, and so it's not like Jessica Jones never happened. I think in the world of Jessica Jones, what I enjoyed about being in that world as Luke Cage is that I wasn't front and center."
