Lucifer Season 4 Officially Starts Production
Lucifer Morningstar and company are back at work as production on season 4 of Lucifer has officially begun. Every year, fans prepare themselves for either the renewal or cancellation of their favorite TV shows – and sometimes even both, as there are networks that drop some of their shows and another one comes to save the day. Such was the case this year with Fox’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine, picked up by NBC for a sixth season, and Lucifer, which found a new home at Netflix.
Soon after its cancellation, Lucifer fans started a social media campaign with the hashtag #SaveLucifer, in hopes of encouraging other networks to give the series another chance. Luckily, the series was picked up by Netflix, and som season 4 will eventually see the light. Although there’s no projected release date yet, production on season 4 of Lucifer has now started.
Through a one-minute video shared on Netflix’s See What’s Next Twitter account, the cast of Lucifer confirmed that production on the new season has begun. The video starts with Tom Ellis (Lucifer), Lauren German (Detective Chloe Decker), Kevin Alejandro (Detective Dan), Rachael Harris (Dr. Martin), and Aimee Garcia (Ella Lopez) back at their “very white make-up trailer”, thanking fans for their support. Cut to: the Lux’s bar, with Lesley-Ann Brandt as her character Mazikeen, welcoming the audience back to Lucifer’s bar and presenting a bottle with the pickled soul of “the decision-maker” who canceled the series.
Based on the comic book characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringerberg, Lucifer follows the Prince of Darkness as he abandons Hell and moves to Los Angeles, where he runs his own nightclub alongside Mazikeen, a demon who served as his head torturer back in Hell. After being involved in a murder case with Detective Chloe Decker, Lucifer is invited to be a consultant to the LAPD. Other characters from Lucifer’s personal life have been introduced along the way, such as his brother, Amenadiel (D.B Woodside), his mother (Tricia Helfer) described as “the goddess of all creation”, and God himself, voiced appropriately by Neil Gaiman.
Although season 4 will only have 10-episodes (a big contrast with season 3 which had 23 episodes with two bonus ones), showrunners Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich have previously explained that this will serve as a “first half” of the original season 4 arc, and there’s always potential for more seasons – so there’s hope for more of Lucifer Morningstar and company after their first season at Netflix.
