As much as we hate it when it happens, films still get delayed. It's just something you get used to when you follow the entertainment industry. That being said, for a film to get delayed a week before its release date seems a little fishy. We’ve been looking forward to the upcoming animated featured The Little Prince for months, and now it seems we are going to have to wait a little bit longer as Paramount has just dropped it from their upcoming release schedule.

A new report from Variety indicates that Paramount Pictures will no longer distribute the upcoming animated feature The Little Prince. Up until recently the film was all set and ready to go with a March 18 release date, but, due to unspecified circumstances, Paramount decided to drop the film. This decision has forced a delay for the film’s American release, but it will still hit theaters in Canada this coming weekend.

Mark Osborne, director of The Little Prince, issued a statement on Twitter to inform fans that the film would still hit American theaters thanks to another distributor – just a little later than anticipated:

Many thanks to everyone for the outpouring of love and support in these strange times… As it turns out, the much-anticipated U.S. release of this special and unique film will have to be anticipated just a little bit more. All I can say is #thelittleprince will in fact be released by another distributor later this year. Until then, head to Canada! The film opens there in wide release this weekend!

Based on the 1943 Antoine de Saint-Exupery story, The Little Prince tells the story of a young girl that meets an aging pilot, who then proceeds to regale her with a tale about a young prince in a desert. It’s a story that tackles themes of maturity, imagination, and a refusal to let age ruin one’s childlike view of the world around them. The film has assembled an absolutely all-star cast, enlisting the acting talents of James Franco, Rachel McAdams, Jeff Bridges, Marion Cotillard, Benicio Del Toro, and many others.

As of now we still have no idea why Paramount Pictures decided to drop the film, but we will bring you any and all updates as they become available to us. Canadian audiences will still be able to check out the film’s wide release this weekend.
