Lionsgate is working on a movie based on Gearbox's Borderlands, with producers Avi Arad and his son Ari.

According to Variety, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairs Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger said that "the ‘Borderlands’ games don’t pull any punches, and we’ll make the movie with the same in-your-face attitude that has made the series a blockbuster mega-franchise.”

Avi Arad was the founder of Marvel Studios and was involved as a producer on most Marvel-based films (including Blade, X-Men, Spider-Man, Daredevil and Fantastic Four) through the debut of Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk. After leaving Marvel, he still remained a producer on the Spider-Man series at Sony.

Lionsgate has been looking towards video games recently, after hiring Peter Levin as president of a new Interactive Ventures and Games division, and investing in Telltale Games in February.

It was reported last month that Lionsgate was in negotiations for a live-action Naruto movie, with Avi Arad also suggested to be a producer.
