A new TV spot for Disney’s CGI remake of The Lion King features Beyoncé and Donald Glover singing one of the most iconic songs from the film. The trend of remaking animated films continues, and it’s stronger than ever at Disney, with The Lion King being their latest project.

Although initially reported as a live-action film, The Lion King is a photorealistic CGI remake of Disney’s classic, in the same style of Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book remake. This film, also directed by Favreau, has a star-studded voice cast that includes Donald Glover (Simba), Beyoncé (Nala), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Scar), and James Earl Jones (Mufasa), among many others. It also features four songs from the original film, including “Can You Feel The Love Tonight,” and now we have an idea of what this new version of the song will sound like.

A new TV spot for The Lion King features a small taste of “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” performed by Beyoncé and Glover. The song is also performed by Seth Rogen (Pumba) and Billy Eichner (Timon), but the video doesn’t include their parts - though it does include a voiceover from Mufasa, specifically from the scene where he explains to Simba that their ancestors are looking at them from the stars, and so will he when the time comes.

So far, The Lion King trailers and spots have done quite a bit of fan service by showing some of the most iconic scenes from the animated classic, which have prompted some claims that this will be a shot-for-shot remake. Favreau and company have already explained that it is not, but there are some scenes from the original Disney film that are too iconic to be changed, and that there will be a bunch of new scenes and moments that will add to the story visually and emotionally.

As previously mentioned, The Lion King features four songs from the original film: “Can You Feel The Love Tonight,” “The Circle of Life,” “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King,” and “Hakuna Matata.” Hans Zimmer returned to score the film, and Elton John was also brought back to rework his compositions before his retirement. John, along with Tim Rice and Beyoncé, worked on a new song that will play during the end credits, so fans might want to stay a bit longer while the credits roll.

Some Disney songs are considered classics, and it’s not easy for new versions to be well received by the audience. However, Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin recently proved there can be new versions that stay true to the original while also bringing some freshness to them. Hopefully, that will be the case with The Lion King, and with a cast like that it’s unlikely they will go wrong with these new performances.
