'La La Land' breaks record for most Golden Globes won by a movie

'La La Land' breaks record for most Golden Globes won by a movie

"La La Land" swept the 74th Golden Globe Awards. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone's musical movie led the field of nominees with seven nominations.

In addition to the acting awards for Gosling and Stone, "La La Land" was up for comedy picture, director, screenplay, score and song.

By winning the Golden Globe for comedy picture, "La La Land" notched its seventh win, surpassing the record of six awards held by "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (1975) and "Midnight Express" (1978).

Damien Chazelle won for directing and screenplay, and Justin Hurwitz won for original score. The award for song went to Benj Pasek and Justin Paul for "City of Stars."

Pretty unbelievable. I really want to see this movie.

Yeah.. I don't feel like watching this flick. There's something off about it. I'm a huge fan of Gosling and Stone alike, but I despise musicals. Even the /allegedly/ good ones. I think it's overrated. The same reason I didn't even take a glimpse at Avatar. I'm going to watch the Globes later on tonight. Curious to see how Fallon did!

I saw La La Land. I've been a huge cinephile for almost 2 decades, and I can tell you this is one the best films I've ever seen. Nothing about it is overrated, not its IMDb rating (8.8), not the Critics' Metascore rating (93%), not the Rotten Tomatoes rating (93%), not the Google users rating (90%), not the clean sweep (7 out of 7) Golden Globes it won last night, and not the Oscars that it will win next month. None of that is exaggerated or overrated. The film is simply pure perfection. I'm watching it again tomorrow, and I'm rooting for it to win the Oscar for Best Picture.

P.S. The Soundtrack and Score... WOW! You gotta download them. I've been playing them on a loop for a few days now.

Well, you made a damn good promotion for the movie, that's for sure, haha. I might check it out, if the soundtrack's that good.. I love film scores. I should just put the thought that it's a musical somewhere at the back of my brain and go for it. I don't trust IMDB much. There's a lot of good movies, in my opinion, that are poorly rated there. Anyway, thanks for the heads up.

@buzzit Sure, IMDb's score is just an aggregated opinion of IMDb's members, yours might be completely different, and that's totally fine! That's also why I made it a point to mention every other credible score I could find If they're all that high, that's gotta mean something, right?

I usually have the opinion that as a moviegoer, I shouldn't be against a particular genre in specific. I usually go in with an open mind, and evaluate every movie as an individual work of art, independent of its genre.

@fiorentini - Yeah, I agree. I'm not biased or anything. I've had my fair share of musicals and I just couldn't stand them. Though, you flipped me over, so I'm going to watch it regardless.

Lemme know what you think. Also, I read that La La Land is getting the IMAX treatment. If you live in an area where the film is shown on IMAX, go for that.

@fiorentini - I happen to live right next to a mall with an IMAX-equipped setup. Ideas just keep on coming. I'll definitely reply back when I get the chance to go see it. Strolling through the Globes right now.
