A Knives Out joke movie poster celebrating Canada Day casts Keanu Reeves, Ryan Reynolds, Dwayne Johnson & more in this fake spinoff. Written and directed by Rian Johnson, Knives Out is a murder-mystery following detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) as he sets out to solve the death of wealthy crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer). With an all-star cast and a cleverly plotted story, Knives Out earned rave reviews from critics and casual moviegoers alike, and was a success at the box office.

In fact, the movie was such a hit for Lionsgate, the studio confirmed earlier this year Knives Out 2 is moving ahead with Johnson back and writing a new script. As the filmmaker had previously indicated, a Knives Out sequel would again follow Detective Blanc, while members of the Thrombey family and other characters close to mystery - like Ana de Armas' Marta - wouldn't return. Instead, the Knives Out sequel will be about an entirely new mystery. Now in honor of Canada Day, Lionsgate has offered up their own suggestion for a Knives Out spinoff.

On Twitter, Lionsgate posted a movie poster for the fake Knives Out spinoff, Knives Oot, playing on the Canadian accent. The post reads, "Buddies, in honour of our northern neighbours, I decided to create the (unofficial) @KnivesOut spin-oof poster for #CanadaDay." The poster features an all-star cast on par with that of Johnson's movie, but made up of Canadian actors: Keanu Reeves, Ryan Reynolds, Sandra Oh, Aubrey Graham (better known as Drake), Seth Rogen, Abel Tesfaye (better known as The Weeknd), Ellen Page, Dan Levy, Dwayne Johnson and Tatiana Maslany. See the poster below.

Although this Knives Out spinoff poster is a joke and no such movie is in the works, the cast alone is reason enough to want Knives Oot to become a real film. For instance, if Reeves was to play an eccentric detective on par with Craig's Blanc, Johnson a villain akin to Chris Evans' Ransom Drysdale, Oh a funny suspect like Toni Collette's Joni, and Reynolds a wise-cracking local cop, this Knives Out spinoff could be just as successful. Although the premise of Knives Out reimagined simply in Canada with Canadian stars isn't the most inventive start to a story, a good script that utilizes these particular talents could be just as successful as Johnson's whodunnit. It's almost disappointing Knives Oot isn't a real movie in development.

That said, there is a real Knives Out sequel in the works. Currently, Knives Out 2 is still in early development, with Johnson working on the script. Little is known about the story of the movie, though it's expected to feature Detective Blanc solving a new mystery. What that mystery is remains to be seen. It's also unclear when the Knives Out sequel may release, with Hollywood shutdowns putting productions on hold. Considering Knives Out was announced in September 2018 then released in November 2019, it's likely the sequel could come together relatively quickly. Hopefully an update about the real Knives Out sequel will be announced soon enough, but until then, this poster for Knives Oot will have to make due. At least, as the poster promotes, Knives Out is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
