While both Jason Momoa's Aquaman and Erza Miller's The Flash will receive their own standalone films following the release of Justice League: Part One, neither will be origin stories.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal (via ComicBook.com), producer Charles Roven revealed that both solo films pick up after the events of Justice League and continue the stories of each respective character. "While each movie stands alone, they’re all part of one long arc of storytelling," Roven explained.

When crafting The Flash and Aquaman's big-screen debuts, Justice League and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice screenwriter Chris Terrio did a significant amount of background research. In fact, he went so far as to study electromagnetic physics for The Flash and deep sea biology in the Mariana trench for Aquaman.

Additionally, Terrio read a Greek historian's account of the Atlantis-Amazon war to gain further insight into Wonder Woman. "If you told me the most rigorous dramaturgical and intellectual product of my life would be superhero movies, I would have said you were crazy," he said.

Justice League: Part One begins filming in April and opens November 17, 2017. Meanwhile, The Flash will make its theatrical debut in March 2018, with Aquaman arriving a few months later, in July.
