Justice League's Eventual Queen Of Atlantis Has Officially Been Cast

While DC’s cinematic universe isn’t quite in as full swing as Marvel’s these days, it’s clear that behind the scenes, they’re in full-on franchise mode. While Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is a week away from hitting the screen, Warner Brothers is planning several movies ahead. We’ve known what Aquaman would look like for several months now, but now we have a pretty good idea of how his queen will look as well. We know who’s playing the part, and we know what the costume will look like.

A recent rumor has been confirmed that will place Amber Heard in the position of Mera, Queen of Atlantis. We know that Jason Momoa will play Aquaman when that character makes his cinematic debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice now, thanks to ET Online, we now know that his queen will make her debut in Justice League: Part One next year, before going on the Aquaman film in 2018. Heard also gave a basic description of what her Mera costume would entail.

While Mera, like every other comic book character, has seen a variety of looks since she was introduced in the 1960’s, her modern incarnation is generally is some sort of green body suit, which has a scale-like appearance. If this Justice League outfit includes armor of some kind, we can be fairly sure that Mera isn’t going to be there simply to make a cameo. She’s going to be there to fight. Since the character is being described as the "eventual" queen of Atlantis, the implication is that she won’t be introduced as Aquaman’s partner. Does this mean that the relationship between the two will be a significant part of Justice League: Part One?

It’s been a few months since it was first rumored that Mera would be a character in the upcoming Justice League: Part One, and a couple since Amber Heard was rumored to be the one Warner Brothers wanted for the role.
