As we get closer and closer to the big DC team up blockbuster Justice League, more and more details are being revealed about the film’s villain Steppenwolf, including a new clean look at the character’s face.
The villainous wannabe world conqueror and uncle to arch villain Darkseid will unleash an army of parademons on Earth so dangerous it forces these superheroic titans to come together to stop them. That’s about the extent of what we know about the antagonist in the film, however; despite an extensive comics history it remains to be seen how the character will be portrayed. We know that esteemed Irish actor Ciaran Hinds will play Steppenwolf and the trailers for the film have at least given us a taste of his performance, but he’s still a wildcard.
Having previously being obscured or enhanced by CGI effects in the other trailers, we’ve now gotten a good look at the alien face that will be threatening the Justice League come November care of tie-in merchandise. A latex mask of Steppenwolf’s head has turned up on Reddit.

We’ve seen Steppenwolf’s craggily and menacing face thanks to other toys and images before the leak of this image, but this provides considerably more detail. While it’s part of a costume and so there will be some practical license in the recreation, it seems to be pretty faithful to all movie versions seen so far.
It’ll be interesting to see how much development Steppenwolf will get as a character in the film. When The Avengers teamed up for the first time, the huge threat was Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, who was not only a charismatic screen presence but also a fully developed and sympathetic character. Other than a brief appearance teasing Justice League in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s Ultimate Edition, we’ve not really met Steppenwolf, nor do we know his motivations.
There’s a risk the character will be underdeveloped, especially since most of the heroes in the film are also making their first extended appearances as well, but we can definitely hope that Steppenwolf lives up to the intimidating design when he takes on the Justice League in November.
