‘Jurassic World’ Viral Site Reveals New Images; First Trailer Next Week?

It might not feel like it to those of us who grew up watching the Jurassic Park films, but the franchise itself is now almost two decades old. On top of that, it’s been almost 15 years since Jurassic Park III earned middling responses from both critics and audiences. The future of Jurassic Park as a viable property is likely to depend on whether next year’s Jurassic World is able to recapture the imagination of modern audiences, and reignite the movie magic that many say even Steven Spielberg’s The Lost World failed to reproduce.

To their credit, Universal has been very shrewd with Jurassic World’s promotion so far, teasing fans with a slow but steady roll out of new materials. We’ve gotten plot details, images from the set, posters, concept art, and videos so far, and we can now add a brand new viral site to the list.

Presented on the surface as the official website of industry-spanning conglomerate Masrani Global, the site features brand new promo images for the film, including shots of company head Simon Masrani (Irrfan Khan) and the returning Dr. Henry Wu (B.D. Wong).

As detailed on the fictional company’s about page, Masrani Global acquired InGen Technologies in 1997, shortly after the death of its founder John Hammond. Hammond, the visionary businessman who originally came up with the idea for a dinosaur amusement park, was said to be in dire physical straits prior to the catastrophic events of The Lost World, and it now appears to be official series canon that he passed away not long after that film took place.

With Masrani now in full control of InGen’s technology, the company set out to realize Hammond’s dream, and began constructing Jurassic World on Isla Nublar – the setting of the original Jurassic Park – in 2002. Sparing no expense, Masrani Global spent over $1 billion on Jurassic World’s construction, with the park opening its doors in 2005. In its first month of operation, nearly 100,000 visitors traveled from all the over the world to see the breathtaking biological attractions up close and personal.

The T-Rex that rampaged through San Diego at the end of The Lost World clearly wasn’t a deterrent to humanity’s eternal fascination with dinosaurs.

In addition to the slick Masrani Global viral site, the official Jurassic World website has begun a countdown, presumably to a grand event of some kind. As of this writing, there is a little less than 10 days remaining on the countdown clock, placing the big reveal on Thanksgiving day at 9pm EST. The safest bet here is that Universal plans to unveil the first official trailer for Jurassic World at that time, but that’s obviously just an educated guess.

If the clock is indeed counting down toward Jurassic World’s first trailer, Universal would be advised to make it a good one. If they knock audiences’ socks off now, it’s even more likely they’ll show up on opening weekend. Jurassic World’s creators might never be able to recreate the wonder the world collectively experienced when it first beheld Speilberg’s dinosaur opus, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t try.

What do you think, Screen Rant readers? Are you excited to see the first trailer for this film?

Jurassic World premieres in theaters on June 12th, 2015.
