Jurassic World 3: Laura Dern Excited To Return As Feminist, Badass Ellie Sattler

Laura Dern is excited to return as Ellie Sattler in Jurassic World 3 as a badass feminist. Dern first appeared as the iconic Paleobotanist in Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park in 1993 before returning eight years later in a smaller role for Jurassic Park III. Fans have been wanting her to return ever since Jurassic Park 4 was announced, and now she is finally set to come back for the final film in the Jurassic World trilogy.

Jurassic World 3 comes out in June 2021, but not a lot is known about the film at this point. The plot is being held tightly under wraps, but the next film won't include the hybrid dinosaurs that were introduced in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Colin Trevorrow, who directed Jurassic World in 2015, is returning to direct the final film, with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard returning as Owen Grady and Claire Dearing. While actors from the first two Jurassic World films are returning, fans were thrilled to hear last September that Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum would return for Jurassic World 3 alongside Dern, with larger roles than Goldblum had in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Fans are excited to have three iconic characters return, and so is Dern.

When being interviewed by IMDb, Dern expressed her excitement about being included in Jurassic World 3. Dern commented, "I love Ellie Sattler and I have grown up with her alongside me. So many children and particularly young women who idolized and felt she was sort of one of their first feminist bad-ass action characters. I love the idea of seeing where she is now." She went on to explain her enthusiasm to get to work with Neill and Goldblum again, as well as being directed by Trevorrow.

While Dern is still mostly known for her role as Ellie Satler, she has had a very successful career since her Jurassic Park days. Dern has been nominated for two Academy Awards in the category of Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role, and that's not even mentioning her nomination in 1992 for Rambling Rose. Goldblum was also nominated for an Oscar in 1996 for his work with Tikki Goldberg on their short film Little Surprises. Goldblum is also well-known today for his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the Grandmaster. While he hasn't been nominated for any Oscars, Neill has been acting steadily since the early '70s.

The two already released Jurassic World films have gotten mixed reviews, but fans are certainly hoping that Trevorrow will end the trilogy with a bang. Including the three main characters from the first film is certainly one way to get people's attention, especially since fans have been wanting the characters to return for years now. Ellie was always a strong character in the Jurassic Park films rather than a damsel in distress, so it's reassuring to hear that her character is going to be just as tough in the next film. That being said, Dern probably wouldn't be returning for Jurassic World 3 if they would have changed her character that substantially.
