Now at stake in the upcoming Golden Globe Awards are honor, fame, and… Joe Keery’s hair. The actor, who plays Steve Harrington on Netflix’s Stranger Things , said he’ll shave his head if David Harbour, police chief Jim Hopper on the show, wins a Golden Globe for best supporting actor in a TV series.

Stranger Things is a love letter to the 1980s, and the fantastic hairdos its characters sport are among the show’s top tributes to the decade. Steve’s hair has become a fan favorite , but now the possibility looms that the hair’s time is running out.

Keery commented on Harbour’s Instagram post — in which the Golden Globe contender expresses gratitude for his nomination — saying, “If you win David the Duffer’s [sic] get to shave my head.” Fellow commenters on Harbour’s post were outraged. One user wrote, “If you let them do this you will break the hearts of so many fans. if they get anywhere near, you pull out the bat covered in nails.” Steve, who began season 1 as a potential antagonist, gradually became an irresistible good guy. And thankfully, there’s no reason to expect Keery to follow through, so rest assured (probably).

In addition to Harbour’s Golden Globe nomination, Stranger Things has been recognized in the best TV drama category. Last year, the show earned a nomination for best TV drama as well as an acting nod for Winona Ryder, who plays Joyce Byers. In January, almost a year ago, Stranger Things won a SAG Award for ensemble in a drama series, and Harbour delivered an impassioned acceptance speech denouncing the hyper-contentious political climate.

Stranger Things thrives on its acting; practically everyone on the show, from the party of middle-schoolers to the cops who occasionally appear, is fantastic. In season 2, Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers, exceeded all expectations with a brilliant performance. So Harbour deserves his Golden Globe nomination, though he’ll have to beat out a competitive field to win the award.

With season 3 of Stranger Things officially confirmed , Golden Globe trophies are really just the cherry on top of a solid second season. It’ll be interesting to see where season 3 picks up — the Mind Flayer seems sure to be involved — and what kinds of situations it’ll put its excellent cast into. Here’s to hoping that Billy Hargrove (Dacre Montgomery) returns — because if Keery does indeed shave his hair off, viewers will need some more locks to look at.

The Golden Globes will air on January 7, 2018, and Stranger Things season 3 does not yet have an air date.
