Jennifer Lawrence spent her Christmas visiting sick fans at a children’s hospital in her hometown. The holiday season is a time of giving – not only of presents, but of charity. It is a well known fact that charitable spending increases as the holiday season ramps up and most charitable organizations are at their most active during the winter months when Christmas, Hanukkah, Yule, Kwanzaa and other holidays are celebrated.

Time is donated, as well as money, with billions of people around the world giving of themselves to help those in need. Celebrities are not immune to the spirit of generosity that blooms at this time of year. Indeed, many of them are known for keeping the holiday spirit all year long. This is certainly true of renowned actress Jennifer Lawrence , most famous for her portrayal of Katniss Everdeen in the films based on the Hunger Games trilogy of books and Mystique in the X-Men films .

Lawrence’s generous spirit was well displayed this Christmas, when she paid a visit to Norton Children’s Hospital, in her hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. The news was first announced on Norton Children’s Twitter , where pictures of the actress posing with several children and the hospital staff were originally posted.

Louisville's own Jennifer Lawrence stopped by Norton Children's today to visit with patients, families, and staff. This visit has become a tradition for Lawrence each Christmas. Thank you, Jennifer! You sure do bring a smile to all! ❤

Widely believed to be the most successful actress of her generation, Lawrence is currently the highest paid actress in the world. She is also almost as famous for her generosity in sharing her wealth as she is for her acting skills. She frequently tops lists of Hollywood’s greatest philanthropists and once donated $2 million dollars to build an Intensive Care Unit devoted specifically to children’s cardiac issues at Kosair Children’s Hospital – also in Louisville, Kentucky.

Children’s medical care is a cause very close to Lawrence’s heart. Before finding fame on the silver screen, Lawrence worked as an assistant nurse at a summer camp owned by her parents. Indeed, Lawrence considered becoming a pediatric nurse over acting and had a five-year plan to enroll in nursing school if she failed to make it as an actress. With one Oscar win for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for 2012’s Silver Linings Playbook, three Golden Globes and a BAFTA Award among other honors and dozens of nominations, it is safe to say that Lawrence has “made it” by any reasonable measure.
