Jeff Goldblum would be more than happy to return to Marvel Studios, and give his Thor: Ragnarok character, the Grandmaster, his own movie. The actor confirmed his hopes for a Grandmaster-centered film during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week.

During their discussion of Goldblum’s return to playing Ian Malcolm in the upcoming Jurassic World: Fallen Kindgom, host Jimmy Kimmel re-directed the conversation to tell Goldblum how much he enjoyed the actor’s role as the Grandmaster in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnorok. The Grandmaster served as one of the film’s antagonists, ruling the planet of Sakaar and imprisoning both Thor and the Hulk as fighters in his infamous Contest of Champions.

When Kimmel gushed over how much he enjoyed Goldblum’s performance in the film and that he’d love to see Grandmaster have an entire movie about him, Goldblum responded (via Comic Book), “I would too, I love all those guys at Marvel, and Kevin Feige, but the director of that, Taika Waititi, he's a genius!” Goldblum also revealed during his interview with Kimmel that much of Grandmaster’s dialogue in Thor: Ragnorok was improvised, as is typical with Taika Waititi-directed films.

Goldblum confirmed earlier this month that the Grandmaster is indeed alive in the MCU following the events of Avengers: Infinity War, so any hopes that the Grandmaster might actually receive a solo movie aren’t entirely out of the question. Goldblum also indicated that he would be open to working with Benicio del Toro and his character the Collector, who is the brother of the Grandmaster. Screen Rant asked del Toro how he felt about the potential project, and he was more than happy with the idea, calling the opportunity to work with Goldblum “an honor.”

Of course, Marvel has not yet confirmed or even teased the potential of a spin-off film centered on these two characters. But both actors appear on-board, and with their characters’ unique personalities, this potential project could even open up the possibility for Waititi to return to the MCU and direct such a film. Waititi’s directorial flourishes in Thor: Ragnarok have been praised by Marvel fans and film critics alike, and Goldblum’s interview with Kimmel indicated how much the actor enjoyed working with the New Zealand filmmaker. A combination of Waititi, del Toro, and Goldblum would both get fans’ attention and virtually guarantee a successful box office opening.
