Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson have great chemistry in Fifty Shades Of Grey, according to producer Michael DeLuca.

The adaptation of the E.L. James novel of the same name is finally under production after all of the casting troubles of last year.

With the main characters Christian Grey (Dornan) and Anastasia Steele (Johnson) firmly in place, things are moving along and heating up just as much as the story does.

“The chemistry is there, they genuinely like each other. They’re enjoying the story, the story is so powerful,” DeLuca said while attending the second annual PGA breakfast for producers attending Sundance.

The veteran producer talked about the challenges of filming a movie like Fifty Shades:

“Obviously, the movie can’t be as explicit as the book,” De Luca said.

“The book is explicit by design because the author wanted to go inside the head of Anna — the female lead — and detail her experience. On the literary level, that was necessary.”

“But in a film or any visual medium, a picture is worth a thousand words. To be erotic onscreen is going to have more power than to read the words on a page.”

He added that adapting the book was easier for him than it was for author E.L. James.

According to a source, things are going great between Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, and he is very protective of her.

“Jamie Dorman is really protective over Dakota,” the source says. “She is very friendly and talks to everyone [crew, security, etc.] Jamie stays to himself and does not talk much. Jamie thinks Dakota gets really distracted, because she is so nice to people and so he will walk over to who she is talking to and try and end the conversation. He is nice about it, but he does ask them to leave her alone.”

But the tension during production is not limited to that of a sexual nature between the two protagonists.

E! News reports sparks have been flying between two other central people to the film, director Sam Taylor-Johnson and author E.L. James — also a producer.

James does not agree with the changes Taylor-Johnson has made to the novel (this is probably what Michael DeLuca was referring to).

Despite being a newcomer, Dakota Johnson is reportedly nailing the role, insiders say, and they add everyone loves Dakota and Taylor-Johnson has a great relationship with both her and Jamie Dornan.
