The internet broke yesterday when it was revealed that Deadpool director Tim Miller would not be returning for the highly anticipated sequel. This was mind blowing for fans of the first movie, the comics, and even the Hollywood elite. Chief among them is the always opinionated social media mogul/ Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn.

James Gunn is one of the most active MCU players on social media; he's constantly addressing issues in real time and interacting with the fandom. And just like us, he was disappointed and shocked when Tim Miller departed as the director of Deadpool 2. Here's what Gunn had to say about the debacle, per his Twitter:

Honestly bummed about Tim Miller leaving Deadpool. He did an amazing job with the first one; I??d like to have seen where he??d go next.

You hear that? It's Deadpool fans collectively nodding their head in agreement. The first movie was truly groundbreaking for the superhero genre, and the idea that the sequel could be helmed by someone who might mess up the magic is terrifying. Will a new director take Deadpool 2 in a more traditional direction? Let's hope not.

James Gunn also managed to throw a little shade on Ryan Reynolds while interacting with fans who commented on his recent tweet. One such fan tweeted back at Gunn angrily, claiming that Fox was messing with something they shouldn't. But Gunn seems to believe the recent reports that Ryan Reynolds' interference and artistic differences with Tim Miller are the reason he's leaving. Check it out.

@scottyparker25 well, it??s Reynolds, not Fox

Bam. James Gunn doesn't even work for Fox, but he still made sure to stick up for the studio in regards to Tim Miller's departure. The beef was mostly with Ryan Reynolds, and Gunn wanted to make that clear.

Of course, Fox isn't totally blameless in this situation. While not directly related to Tim Miller's decision to leave Deadpool 2, they were the ones who had final decision in regards to the Miller/Ryan Reynolds feud. When Miller and Reynolds disagreed over the artistic vision and casting of Deadpool 2, Fox ended up siding with the star. Of course, Reynolds is also a producer on the movie, so his combined roles should make for a fair amount of power and clout within the project. Should they have backed up the director instead? That's a matter of opinion.

It should be interesting to see how Deadpool 2 continues its development moving forward. The first film was stuck in development hell for years, so a setback like Tim Miller's departure may have the ability to send the movie spiraling. Then again, Fox is sure to be much more passionate about Deadpool 2's production, considering how much money the first one made them.
