Hulu's Veronica Mars revival has added Oscar-winner J.K. Simmons to its cast, and he's in with the 09ers.

The Counterpart star will play an ex-con named Clyde Prickett in the series. Clyde served 10 years for racketeering and was the first inmate in Chino to offer protection to Neptune real estate developer Big Dick Casablancas (David Starzyk) when he entered the prison.

Now a free man, Clyde works as the elder Casablancas' fixer. He's the smarter and more dangerous of the two and has a network of fellow ex-cons he uses to do his dirty work.

Simmons is one of several Veronica Mars newcomers joining the eight-episode Hulu run. Dawnn Lewis and Patton Oswalt have also signed on for roles, along with Clifton Collins Jr. (Westworld) and Izabela Vidovic (The Fosters, iZombie). Series veterans Kristen Bell, Enrico Colantoni, Jason Dohring, Percy Daggs III, Francis Capra, Ryan Hansen, Max Greenfield and Daran Norris are all returning.

The new season centers on a series of murders among spring break partiers in Neptune. The family of one victim asks Veronica (Bell) to look into the case, exposing the class divide in Neptune once more.

Simmons won an Oscar in 2014 for his role in Damien Chazelle's Whiplash. He stars with Hugh Jackman in The Front Runner, due for release Nov. 21, and in season two of Counterpart on Starz, which premieres in December.

Hulu hasn't set a premiere date for Veronica Mars yet. The original series and 2014 feature film will begin streaming on the service in summer 2019.
