Insidious: Chapter 3 Will Be a Prequel!

Here’s an interesting bit of news. It turns out that the next entry in the “Insidious” series will be a prequel and not a sequel. If you saw “Insidious: Chapter 2″, you might recall that the end of that film seemed to suggest that the new movie would follow the events of Chapter 2. However, that might not be the case after all.

Over on the “Insidious” Facebook page, they revealed a new screenshot for the upcoming sequel along with a contest to visit the set of “Insidious: Chapter 3.” You can see the full details here. Along with that, they also briefly mentioned that the next film would “predate” the previous films. Slash Film got a hold of a press release that clarified what that meant:

Insidious: Chapter 3 stars Dermot Mulroney (of August: Osage County) and Stefanie Scott (of Blumhouse’s upcoming Jem and the Holograms) alongside Lin Shaye, Angus Sampson, and Mr. Whannell, with the latter trio reprising their roles from the first two movies in the franchise.
In Insidious: Chapter 3, a twisted new tale of terror begins for a teenage girl and her family, predating the haunting of the Lambert family in the earlier movies and revealing more mysteries of the otherworldly realm The Further.

So there you go, it looks like the “Insidious” film is indeed a prequel. However, it could also be possible that the next film might deal with different time periods like “Insidious: Chapter 2″ and we could see a story set in the past and present day again. I’m sure we’ll know more as production gets underway for the films release on May 29, 2015.
